Combining the three main abilities can keep Batman attacking while moving between enemies and avoiding being attacked himself. The system lets Batman move quickly between enemies, chaining attacks together until all enemies are unconscious. The game’s “Freeflow” combat uses three main buttons: attack, stun, and counter. Players can traverse enemy-controlled areas using stealth or direct combat. Batman can run, jump, climb, crouch, glide from heights using his cape, and use his grapple gun to climb low structures or escape to higher ledges. Once the player emerges onto the island they will freely explore the game world, although some areas remain inaccessible until certain milestones within the main story. The opening areas of the game are linear, serving as a tutorial for the moves and approaches available to the player. The player controls Batman as he traverses Arkham Asylum, a secure facility for the criminally insane located off the coast of Gotham City. The playable character is visible on the screen and therefore the camera are often freely rotated around him. Most of the game’s leading characters are voiced by actors who have appeared in other media supported the DC Animated Universe Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and Arleen Sorkin reprised their roles as Batman, the Joker, and his sidekick Harley Quinn respectively.īatman: Arkham Asylum is an action-adventure game viewed from the third-person perspective. I've got a couple of pairs of nice 3D glasses (nice frame, like 3D Ray-Bans).Batman battles his archenemy, the Joker, who instigates an elaborate plot to seize control of Arkham Asylum, trap Batman inside with many of his incarcerated foes, and threaten the fictional Gotham City with hidden bombs. Well that happens when you use red and blue to make the 3D image. IMO one of the coolest features added to any GOTYEīut from what I have picked up the glasses tend to ruin the colour of things, so yeah, its in 3D, but everything is a bit bland and dark. Yes the GOTY includes an option to play the game in 3D.Įuropean release includes the same feature. Which is a shame, as there aren't many PAL LE's or CE's on the horizon so far for the rest of 2009 Yet another cool American Limited Edition we probably won't see over here. Batman Arkham Asylum Collectors Edition Details Revealed.Pictures and Final Details of Batman Arkham Asylum.I’m not sure how accurate this is for the period of the game but it at least looks quite nice. The inside of the digi-pak case is done up to look like an old reel-to-reel audio recorder, such a recorder would have been used by a mental institution to record the therapy sessions of the patients. If nothing else it helps set it apart from the regular edition games. A SteelBook would have been nicer, not to mention it would have given us at least SOMETHING metal in this mostly metal looking CE, but I appreciate a nice digi-pak over a standard keep case. The actual game case is nice, it’s a d-disc book style digi-pak with a box cover. Not that collectors are the kind to actually USE stickers that are included with a CE but it’s nice to see some fresh thinking with the CE packaging. Interesting that they made the content cards the backing for some stickers of the game’s emblem.

The manual sits outside of the digi-pak game case, most likely because the design of the game case doesn’t allow room for much outside of the two discs.

the actual content is in a binding typical of most game manuals but the faux-leather cover makes this a much nicer center piece than the Batarang, if nothing else its more believable. The medical journal with character descriptions was a nice touch. They also added fake scratches which don’t help its case any. I found the Batarang to be a bit of a let down, it is no surprise that they decided to make it of plastic, but it is pretty obvious and looks more like a toy than a replica weapon. Inside the case is a life-sized plastic replica of the Batarang, a medical journal from Arkham Asylum in a faux-leather cover, two stickers with Xbox Live content codes on the back, the game manual, and a special 2-disc digi-pak case with the game disc as well a behind the scenes DVD. It is flat black and adorned with gloss black text and emblems. Inside the plastic box is a Large chip-board case with a hinged top and magnetic latch in the same of the bat symbol. The Collector’s Edition of Batman: Arkham Asylum comes in a large Plastic Box.
